DeWitt is located in the Southeastern part of Saline County and was named after a famous minister of the Brooklyn Tabernacle, Mr. DeWitt Talmage. DeWitt is most noted for the famous VISE-GRIP wrench that was invented by Wm Petersen back in the 1920’s. Various wrenches were once made in town for over 84 years until 2008, when the factory closed its doors and moved to China.
DeWitt is a village of 515 residents. Tucked away in our wonderful community you will find an inviting library, newly renovated pool, and youth ball programs in the summer. We are also home to the following businesses: a quick shop, restaurant, bars, auto repair, bank, Village office, service station, day cares and Post Office along the main street. DeWitt celebrates Independence Day each year with all day games, a car show, water fight, chicken BBQ diner, parade, fireworks and a street dance. Come join in the fun and celebrate July 4th with us!
